The Sr. Cytotechnologist per diem supports the departmental purpose by performing evaluations of cellular material for abnormalities, to correlate present materials with past materials and/or material currently under evaluation in other areas of the laboratory, to present evaluations to the Pathologist for final diagnostic evaluations.
Required Qualifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid State of California Cytotechnologist license
Must possess and maintain ASCP Cytotechnologist certification
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a cytotechnologist in a hospital setting within the last five (5) years.
Experience performing rapid on-site evaluation procedures and adequacy assessments.
Ability to diagnose accurately and to meet State and Federal requirements as applicable with respect to practicing the profession of Cytotechnology.
Ability to evaluate 10,000 gynecologic slides,: 7,800 non-gynecologic slides per year, when no other duties are required, or proportionally less when other duties are required.
Ability to determine clinic-pathologic correlations
Communication skills sufficient to effectively deal with ward and clinical personnel, clerks, nurses, physicians), laboratory personnel and people outside the hospital in a professional and courteous manner.
Reading skills to understand and perform procedures, protocols and policies.
Must be able to write clearly and legibly to communicate test results, related information, and non-verbal instructions that have not been typewritten.
Technical vocabulary adequate to meet departmental needs.
Manual dexterity to utilize common laboratory equipment, (i.e., micro-pipetting devices and analytical instrumentation); and mobility necessary to utilize instrumentation.
Special Requirements
Must be able to work variable shifts as needed on weekends, holidays, must be able to work occasional overtime as required and take call as needed.
