Job Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of hospital grounds as well as of employees, patients and visitors. Must be aware of all hospital codes and be able to respond appropriately. Security Officers conduct investigations, coordinate efforts with hospital staff, and act as a line of defense from outside criminal threats. The Security Officer works alongside clinical staff in the care of patients, specifically patients that present a safety / security risk to staff and visitors.
Working Environment

- May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.

Job Roles
SECURITY OFFICER - Proficiency Level
DEPARTMENTAL EQUIPMENT:
Maintains security equipment, i.e. walkie talkies, security vehicle, uniform, keys, metal detection, building monitors, access control, etc.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:
Aware of all Hospital Codes and able to act on them appropriately. Codes: Red, Yellow, Gold, Pink, Green, Silver and Orange. Coordinates efforts between law enforcement/first responders and hospital staff.
SAFETY AND SECURITY:
Handle patient valuables and lost and found property. Investigate complaints and submit reports, issue permits, cite parking violators and tow vehicles. Monitor the campus and report safety issues / concerns to the appropriate parties.

Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Certification / Licensure / Registration
- State Driver's License with less than 3 points (Required)
- Maryland Security Guard Card (Preferred)
- IAHSS Basic Security Certification (Preferred)
- Annual aggression management training (Preferred)
- BLS/CPR Certification (Preferred, must obtain within 90 days of hire)
Experience and Skills
- 0 - 1 year Experience in Law Enforcement, Corrections or Private Security. (Required)
- 2 - 4 years' Experience in Law Enforcement, Corrections or Private Security. (Preferred)
- Required Skills: Strong Verbal Communications Skills, Excellent Interpersonal Skills
