The individual filling this position in the Stem Cell Laboratory will be an integral member of a team of physicians, nurses, physician extenders, and allied health professionals providing clinical and laboratory services related to pediatric and adult bone marrow transplantation. The Stem Cell Laboratory is a clinical laboratory not a research laboratory.
Work Performed
STCL EMMES database data entry requirements
EPIC (clinical medical record used on-site)
File Reviews required for laboratory batch records
Completion of quality control worksheets daily, weekly, monthly, etc
Filing of laboratory results in designated/secured file cabinets
Completion of CIBMTR data forms by designated deadlines assigned
Verification of flow-related documentation/calculations to ensure accuracy before reporting
Completion of CFU worksheets and data entry in CCBB EMMES database, if needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Flow Cytometry skills including staining, acquisition, and analysis of samples
Blood banking skills including manual and automated manipulation such as red blood
cell reduction, volume reduction, and plasma reduction of cellular products including
cord blood, bone marrow, peripheral blood progenitor cells, etc. used to support
patients undergoing stem cell transplantation
Processing, testing, and cryopreservation of cellular products
Thawing of cellular products for infusion (dextran-albumin thaws, 37ºC thaws)
Processing and testing of incoming NMDP products for infusion
Processing and testing of allogeneic fresh products for infusion
Processing and testing of outgoing NMDP products
Hematology skills needed to include automated cell counts, manual differentials, etc.
Experience using sterile technique desired to ensure that there is no crosscontamination
of the cellular products being prepared for transplant
Experience in plating and enumeration of colony forming unit (CFU) assays desired
Performing maintenance procedures on equipment - daily, weekly, monthly, etc.
Good pipetting skills required
Excellent troubleshooting skills essential
Exceptionally good communication skills required
Detail-oriented, legible documentation is required on all source documentation
Must be able to follow Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and Good Manufacturing
Practices (GMP) in the laboratory to meet regulatory requirements
Strong computer skills needed to ensure accurate results are entered in respective data bases used within the STCL
Strong math skills needed to ensure calculations are confirmed for all results reported on source documentation within the lab and in the medical record

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Candidate must have a B.S. Degree in Medical Technology or a related science field.
Experience
Minimally two years of experience in general laboratory medicine but experience including flow cytometry, hematology, blood banking, etc. strongly preferred.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by a nationally-recognized agency (ie.ASCP, NCA) is required.
