POSITION TITLE: Senior Biomedical Engineer
We seek a highly engaged Senior Biomedical Engineer to join the CuSTOM Accelerator team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, USA. You will contribute with your lab automation expertise to screening and developing methodologies for 3D organoid generation and differentiation procedures, including automated cell culture, liquid handling, microscopy and image analysis, and testing of safety and efficacy of therapeutics.

What you will do: This role for a leading automation specialist in CuSTOM Accelerator, is a hands-on lab-based role working with our laboratory automation to develop and apply protocols that automate the many currently manual lab based processes we run in the organoid research, especially focused on high throughput development and monitoring of stem cells-derived organoids, in situ characterization of their composition and function, response to drugs or other types of treatments.
Our team is a collaborative group and you will engage in the supervision and mentorship of other scientists, ensuring that methods run expertly and accurately, developing and guiding the set-up of new techniques. Included in the role is also to nurture strong collaborative relationships with the project investigators, key partners, and data scientists to ensure the smooth running of projects.
SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Involves the fields of healthcare technology management (systems engineering, biomedical engineering, robotics, regulatory compliance, new technology assessment and deployment). Includes technology selection, device integration, interfacing with IT security, infrastructure and networks and biomedical equipment services (inventory and maintenance of equipment).
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Support - Technical Design, build, operate, train users and maintain, as necessary, instrumentation necessary for research.
Research Support - Analysis Develop algorithms and software for first level data analysis. Use or train users to analysis tools as necessary.
Research Support - Operational Assist with development and performance of research data collection protocols. Monitor data quality. Develop and support data quality improvement initiatives as necessary.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
Master's degree in a related field (eg. Engineering)
5 years' experience including experience with technical programming
Preferred:
At least 2-3 years hands on expertise of developing processes and applying automation to human cell culture methodologies.
Hands-on expertise with high throughput lab automation equipment including liquid handlers, plate readers and high-content screening devices
Expertise in developing applications/writing methods for these instruments (via their control engineering applications/software solutions, scripting, coding as required).
Sample tracking by LIMS integration.
Hands on lab-based experience of a broad range of cell culture techniques that can include cell seeding and maintenance, cell labeling for immunofluorescence, DNA & RNA extraction from cells, ELISA.
Current expertise in developing applications for the automation of these techniques.
Experience with Green Button Go Scheduler or other type of an automated laboratory scheduling software.
