This position is located in Mental Health Services under the direct clinical supervision of the Section Chief for the Psychologists' assigned unit. The Psychologist will provide mental health care for Veterans including psychological assessments, individual and group therapy as part of the treatment programming on the unit. The Psychologist works as a member of an interdisciplinary Mental Health team to develop treatment plans and consults as they develop discharge plans for each Veteran. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently from a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Staff Psychologist GS-11 (Entry Level) Experience. None beyond the basic requirements. Staff Psychologist GS-12 (Development Level)Experience. At least one year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11). Psychologists who are not licensed must practice under the supervision of a licensed psychologist but with less intense supervision than at the GS-11 grade level. Staff Psychologist GS-13: At least two years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 grade level Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes for an adult treatment population: performing bio-psychosocial evaluations; and developing behavioral health treatment plans; and providing psychological counseling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations. 2. Knowledge of and ability to apply structured scientific paradigms to research involving existing protocols and established scientific methods, including knowledge of research design and analysis as applied to their area of expertise, that has resulted in recognition at the local and regional level and that is developing into national recognition (e.g., speaking at national conferences and/or publishing in nationally-distributed scientific journals) 5.
