The Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Full-time Registered Nurse (RN). The Registered Nurse will function in the Cardiology Section within Medicine Service. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. ["Cath/EP Lab The nurse is primarily responsible for applying the nursing process to the care of veteran patients during Specialty Lab procedures. Circulates, assists, and operates equipment for all the various Cardiac Cath/EP Lab procedures and Interventional Radiology Lab procedures. These procedures include, but are not limited to, diagnostic and interventional procedures performed within the Specialty Labs. Monitors patients during Cardiac Cath/EP/IR procedures, including continuous ECG and hemodynamic monitoring, identification of cardiac arrhythmias, response to medications and titration of vasoactive IV medications in appropriate labs. Documents patient data during procedures and maintains the procedure log. Administers medications, including ACLS medications and anticoagulants utilizing all safety precautions. Administers moderate sedation with appropriate patient monitoring, assessment, and documentation. Maintains all radiation safety principles. Conducts quality control procedures on equipment. Follows strict adherence to sterile technique, infection control, and safety practices. Maintains knowledge of the IABP, transvenous pacemaker, and new technological equipment added to the Lab. Transports patients pre- and post-procedure. Assist in the intake and post procedure recovery in the Clinical Procedure Center. Provides patient education both pre, intra and post procedure as needed. Assure detailed, current and comprehensive documentation is contained in the patient medical record and other pertinent records. Evaluate systems for patient care delivery and personnel management by tailoring the operating environment to the needs of the patient population. Promote participation with the Quality Management Program in the Clinical, Research and Educational Programs. Provide a safe physical environment for patients and personnel by interpreting and applying organizational controls and national standards. Assure continuing improvement of service to patients, including implementation of an effective customer service program. Ensure compliance with all patient rights and regulatory agency standards. Collaborate with the other health care professionals in providing continuity of services for specific health issues. Interact with the family and/or significant others to facilitate patient care. Perform emergent care in acute/crisis situations. Stress Lab Monitors patients during procedures, including continuous ECG and hemodynamics, identification of cardiac arrhythmias, response to medications, titration of vasoactive IV medications, and treatments. Provide nursing support for all Non-invasive Cardiology procedures: Exercise stress testing, Pharmacological stress testing, Echo stress testing, Echo IV contrast administration Preps and recovers patients, assist, and operate radiological equipment, physiological monitoring, and related equipment and devices used in the Cardiology Non-invasive Labs. Supports daily operations of the lab including supply and equipment management, patient flow coordination, scheduling, Echo support, quality control testing, PACS and hemodynamic system administration, and participation in quality improvement projects and educational in-services. Possess knowledge and abilities to perform high quality interventional Cardiac Cath/EP/Structural Heart and Echo procedures in accordance with the policies and procedures. Thorough understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology with advanced knowledge of cardiac rhythm recognition. Possess current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 2 months of hire date and be able to intervene in emergency situations, including activating hospital code policy and competence in monitoring patients undergoing sedation in the lab.
