Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care – Division Head

The Department of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, board-certified pediatrician to serve as the Division Head for the Division of Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care. The Division Head in the Division of Advanced General Pediatrics is responsible for leading all clinical care, research endeavors, educational efforts, advocacy and administrative aspects of the Division's work. As the leader of the division, the Division Head serves a critical role in setting and executing upon the division's strategic goals in the clinical, research, education and advocacy domains. We are seeking applicants with interest and robust experience in population health research, patient reported outcome measurement, or quality of care research. Applicants must be Board certified in Pediatrics and have formal post-graduate training in Health Services Research. Applicants should have evidence of nationally recognized scholarly productivity and clinical experience. The ideal candidate will have a history of programmatic extramural funding. Fellowship training in general academic pediatrics and/or a masters level degree is preferred. This position may be on a tenure or non-tenure eligible track; rank and tenure status to be commensurate with experience and track record.

Candidates should have an interest in faculty and fellow mentorship, as a key responsibility is to support division members’ career growth and development. This individual will act as the representative in interactions with Department leadership, hospital administration, external groups and philanthropic donors. The individual in this role is responsible for oversight of divisional operational, philanthropic and grant funding in partnership with the Division Administrator. The Division of Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care

Our Division of Academic General Pediatrics sees nearly 22,000 patient visits at one of four outpatient locations. We provide medical health services, including support for mental health care appropriate for management in the primary care setting, for children and adolescents. The pediatric leader we are seeking will join one of our growing primary care practices, Lurie Children’s Pediatrics at Deming and Lurie Children’s Pediatrics in Uptown. The Deming practice is located in a large, multispecialty outpatient center in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. The Uptown practice is located in the heart of the diverse Uptown neighborhood on Chicago’s far north side. At either Faculty Practice location, this attending physician will be responsible for providing primary care to medically complex children in addition to supervising in the Northwestern University McGaw Residency in Pediatrics continuity clinic. The faculty practice will emphasize the provision of primary care to a predominantly publicly insured population, as well as providing a medical home to children with special healthcare needs. The Division of Academic General Pediatric addresses important clinical and population health problems of children through state-of-the-art interdisciplinary methods and collaborations. We serve a very diverse patient population, who speak over 20 different languages. In addition to responsibility over primary care services, the Division Head will provide oversight for the division’s subspecialty programs including Wellness and Weight Management, Lurie Children’s Care Now, and the Complex Care Program.

The Division of Advanced General Pediatrics has a robust portfolio of population health research, patient reported outcome measurement, or quality of care research in partnership with the Mary Ann & J. Milburn Smith Child Health Outcomes, Research and Evaluation Center. We seek a leader with a strong research background and interest in mentorship of junior research faculty. Faculty and research professionals engage in extramurally and philanthropically supported research to advance knowledge about the natural history, biological, psychological, social and environmental causes of common and prominent child health problems, in partnership with the Smith Child Health Center. Our research is used to inform patients, families, communities, health system leaders, and policymakers. Much of our research and advocacy work is conducted in partnership with the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities and community-based organizations as evidence is translated into clinical and public health interventions. In addition, the Smith Child Health Center works in partnership with the Division of Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care at Lurie Children’s to train the next generation of child health professionals and researchers with its interdisciplinary, collaborative, and public health-centered approach to investigation in a fellowship program that sponsors its trainees to acquire master’s-level training in research.
