GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Assistant General Counsel for Labor & Employment is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on a wide range of employment, labor, and immigration related matters for MultiCare Health System and in close collaboration with MultiCare's Legal and Human Potential (HP) department to providing advice and counsel to Legal and HP and management, include representing the organization in collective bargaining and serving as chief spokesperson for all union negotiations. The Assistant General Counsel provides day-to-day advice and counsel, and pre-dispute matters, advises on the terms of the various collective bargaining agreements, grievances, develops company related policies and programs related to represented employees.
Provides subject matter expertise on a broad range of employment issues, including recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations, re-organizations, complex leaves of absence and accommodations issues, compensation, wage & hour laws, contingent workers, HR practices, and performance management, among other related matters.
Counsel on issues relating to employee international recruiting, including H-1B, PERM labor certification, I-140 petition, green card, non-competition obligations, non-solicitation obligations, and other restrictive covenants.
Prepares and negotiates initial and renewal labor agreements; drafts contract proposals and counterproposals.
Prepares agreements for final signature by the parties; prepares and distributes contract settlement summaries to management; and creates presentations to inform executive team regarding labor and employment issues.
Provides advise in connection with union organizing activity.
Supports legal, HP, compliance, employee escalations, internal and external investigations
Assists with the creation of policies, standards and business procedures designed to foster compliance with various state, federal and worldwide employment laws and regulations
Develops and delivers trainings to internal clients on a variety of employment legal topics
Resolves employment litigation, including EEOC complaints, pre-litigation demands, and manages discovery and preservation issues
Builds and maintains strong relationships with other members of the legal team, the human resources team, and other internal clients to support employment law compliance.
Adheres to MHS Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards, and maintains reliable attendance
