The Assistant Manager will manage the administrative and technical activities of the Plant Operations Department under the Plant Operations Manager/Directorto ensure efficient and effective operations, quality service and customer satisfaction for a 24/hour a day, 7-dayperweek operation. Provide technical expertise on construction, maintenance, repair, operation and alteration of infrastructure systems, and mechanical equipment for our BAIC location.
Coordinates and guides the preventative maintenance of Plant Operations equipment during the off hours. Supervises and guides the functions and activities of employees in the Plant Operations shop. Participates in hiring, training, orienting, disciplining, providing ongoing feedback and contributes to the performance appraisal process. Responds to employee questions and provides mentorship on how to proceed.
Reviews daily work schedules to ensure that workflow is controlled and meets the needs of the organization. Prioritizes work to control daily operations. Checks, inspects, and monitors work in progress for conformance to job specifications. Participates in the control of overtime costs. Communicates and ensures compliance to institutional/departmental policies, procedures, quality standards and improvement initiatives, safety standards, and OSHA requirements. Review contractor installations and workmanship to assure compliance with contract documents and MSKCC standards. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NFPA codes and standards. Provide technical expertise on construction, maintenance, repair, operation and alteration of plumbing, mechanical, medical gas, central chiller and boiler plants, as well as the combined heat and power system, sprinkler/standpipe systems and all other associated equipment for main campus. Takes appropriate action in emergencies, including 24-hour, 7-day on call availability.
Collaborate with other shops and trades and departments. Evaluates work assignments to resolve material and labor needs; prepares job material lists. Develops and maintains department and capital equipment budgets. Investigates delays, solves problems and ensures timely completion of current projects. Initiates vital work orders and corrective action in response to deficiencies noted.
Communicates, plans with, and accommodates end user needs throughout the working relationship.
Reviews/prepares reports and records information as required (e.g., time sheets, purchase orders, cost estimates, preventive maintenance, etc). Assures timely documentation and full compliance, with all authorities having jurisdictions.
Ensures a neat, clean, safe working environment and ensures safety of staff, patients, visitors, and contract workers during the performance of work. Adheres to any and all safety guidelines as imposed or adopted by MSKCC Facilities Management. Manages and coordinates specified ITM of the Fire/Life Safety systems including (but not limited to): standpipe, smoke purge, AHU shutdowns, fire pump testing, etc.
Maintains adequate inventory of supplies/ materials and equipment and reorders as vital. Maintains monthly budget, expense reports, and purchase approvals for materials procured through corporate credit card. Maintains knowledge of status of tools assigned to workers.
Performs the work of the trade on an as needed basis. Responds to fire alarms as a member of the Central Fire Brigade.
Maintains and improves professional growth and development through participation in workshops, seminars, and professional affiliations to stay ahead of trends in the field and to assist with quality improvement initiatives.
You Will Need:
High School Diploma with 10 years of proven experience in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) field. This position requires the application of specialized knowledge and significant job-related experience to provide guidance to other staff

G79 Use and storage of cryogenic liquid gas
BOC Building Operator Certificate (within 1 year)
S12/S13 Citywide Sprinkler/Standpipe System (within one year)
