The Cincinnati, OH VA Medical Center (CVAMC) is recruiting for a Research Health Scientist (Clinical Research Assistant) to work in the Research Department. In this position you will function as a Research Site Assistant for a multi-site VA Cooperative studies within the CVAMC providing scientific and technical support to clinical research trials. This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 2 years, may be extended up to 4 years). NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 2 years, may be extended up to 4 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. The mission of Research and Development (R&D) is to improve the quality of health care for Veterans. The goal of the Million Veteran Program (MVP) is to recruit one million Veterans from the VA Medical Centers across the nation. The incumbent will serve as the Research Site Assistant in support of the local site investigator(s) conducting the research protocol which aims to create resources within VA that would allow researchers to conduct genetic research studies for MVP. Incumbent will assist the Research Coordinator in all day-to-day operations of MVP, The Sweep Protocol, and The Prospective Protocol studies and including enrolling participants, collecting data, and providing support to the Local Site Investigators. Incumbent will support the Research Coordinator to complete all required tasks, both clinical and administrative. The principles, concepts, methods, and techniques of the medical field or specialization of the position to analyze, evaluate and provide advice and consultation. This position requires a robust knowledge of the principles, concepts, practice, and procedures and techniques in the scientific arena to support the organization's research program, and to develop policies, procedures, and criteria for the administration of the research program. Incumbent uses skill in applying this knowledge to such assignments as the coordinating, designing, and planning of complex and varied projects and reports. The employee will most often be working without direct supervision and must rely on their knowledge of the specific research program and general practices to successfully carry out the demands of the position. The purpose of the position is to provide scientific and technical support to a clinical research trial. The work includes implementing the research protocol, conducting the research protocol, resolving problems; monitoring project status, and providing advice in accordance with established criteria, goals, and objectives. Project and Data Management duties include but are not limited to the following: Assist with managing the routine, day-to-day activities of program, including conducting structured interviews, collecting data, and maintaining MVP records. Collect and ship blood specimens Complete and maintain all program-related records Drafts correspondence and general communications regarding the program, including memorandums and reports Assist with scheduling meetings, including arranging for space, notifying participants, preparing the agenda and minutes and following-up on all commitments to ensure that necessary arrangements have been made. Inputs data into a number of electronic databases which might include: Microsoft Outlook, Excel, WORD, PowerPoint, or Access; IFCAO, and other databases. Extract data to prepare reports, sort and summarize data elements, manipulate the data by performing statistical queries that are preprogrammed or are built within the Microsoft or VA software. Handle various administrative details. Clinical Test Management duties include but are not limited to the following: Manages implementation, control and reporting on clinical tests. Maintains records and prepare project administrative and statistical reports Draft and maintain all documentation required for clinical portion of MVP, Sweep, and Prospective participation. Performs routine clinical tests as required by MVP, Sweep, and Prospective studies, including drawing blood, processing samples in the lab, and shipment of samples on a daily basis. Enrollment duties include but are not limited to the following: Assist with all local site activities related to enrollment, including scheduling and conducting participant visits, including structured interviews and health assessments. Prepare and maintain all program documentation related to enrollment. Interacts directly with MVP, Sweep, and Prospective studies, serving as their first point of contact for questions and inquiries related to some of the programs. Enrollment will include a discussion of the consent process including an overview of the research program and its risks and benefits. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8-430 p.m. Additional information may be provided during the interview process.
