This position is located in the Cardiology Section of Medical Service. The incumbent provides technical assistance to the interventional cardiologist on all procedures in the Interventional Cardiac Catheterization lab and to the Catheterization Lab Nurse Manager. The lead Interventional MIT will assist the Nurse Manager in non-nursing functions within the Lab, which are numerous. They will be the local experts responsible for data entry into the VHA­ mandated CART-CL patient database. In addition, they will perform quality control monitoring and trouble-shooting for equipment for their assigned areas. Cost avoidance through careful procurement and use of equipment and expensive non-reusable products will be accomplished by using the incumbent to do new product and equipment research, development, and cost analysis. The incumbent will also act as the team educators for any new equipment. They will supervise the other MIT's and ensure all staff members are proficient in the use of the highly technical equipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES TO BE ADDRESSED: Knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques in order to provide training and supervision in these procedures, to evaluate and initiate performance improvement projects, and to write policies, procedures and protocols, that pertain to the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels. Ability to manage and supervise employees. Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. Ability to provide, or provide for, staff development and training. Ability to evaluate new products and equipment and make recommendation concerning developments which would improve operations. Ability to manage the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (which would include fund controls, contracts and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs and administer the allocated budget.
