Associate Professor with Tenure - Section of Critical Care/ Acute Care Surgery

Faculty Position Division of General Surgery Section of Critical Care/ Acute Care Surgery University of Minnesota Associate Professor with Tenure The Division of Critical Care/ Acute Care Surgery at the University of Minnesota is seeking a qualified individual for a full-time tenure track position as an Associate Professor. Qualified candidates must have an M.D. degree and be board certified in surgery and critical care. Clinical caseload will include trauma, surgical critical care, and general surgery cases. Candiates must possess expertise in veno-venous ECMO cannulation and management. Candidates must also have a developed an independently funded research program focusing on clinical informatics and clinical research, with a specific focus on developing a learning health system for patients with traumatic injuries and critical illness. Candidates should have achieved a track record of substantial extramural funding as Principal Investigator. Candidates must also have experience leading multicenter randomized clinical trials. Successful candidates will have strong technical skills in general surgery and significant experience with surgical outcomes research, health informatics (natural language processing, computer vision, big data analytics), clinical trials and quality improvement/informatics implementation. They must have completed formalized training including graduate level coursework in clinical research including biostatistics, health informatics, and clinical trials. They must have experience in quality improvement and clinical informatics implementation (including peer reviewed publications of successfully implemented informatics projects). Responsibilities include (1) participating as the attending staff in one or more of the intensive care units associated with the Division; (2) participation as a surgeon or intensivist at one of our partner facilities, (3) developing an independently funded clinical informatics research program (4) teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows; and (5) full participation in departmental activities.
