Work Hours/Shift:   Full Time (8 or 10 hr. schedule available)
 

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Abstracts reportable cases with regards to timeliness and quality as specified in the Cancer Registry’s quality assurance policy. 
  • Rely on and utilize the most current hierarchy of source documents to establish which information must be used in preference over any other. Thorough understanding of where to locate details to enable completion of the abstracts required fields, for the year(s) the patients are diagnosed, treated and surveilled.
  • Adheres to the department’s productivity requirements and maintains specified accuracy rate.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaption to changes in standards, data systems and registry policies, as well as self-education on changes in abstracting requirements.
  • Timely correction of and addition to patient records, based on edits generated, or additional information/reports received from Quality and Education Specialist
  • Participate in Quality Assurance peer review, as a reviewer and reviewee.
Qualifications

What You Will Need:

Required:
  • Current and valid Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification
  • Minimum of 3 years working as a Certified Tumor Registrar, or related registry experience
  • Associate degree in Healthcare or Health Information Management
Job Summary:
 
The Certified Tumor Registrar is responsible for all aspects of accurate and complete data collection for reportable cancer cases.  The Certified Tumor Registrar completes casefinding, abstracting and follow-up data entry in compliance with national, state and accreditation standards.  Assists the Cancer Registry Manager as needed with special projects and actively participates in continuing education in order to stay abreast of all applicable changes in the cancer industry with regards to coding and compliance.
