The Registry Financial Coordinator initiates and coordinates the unrelated donor search and financial clearance processes for transplant candidates, which includes interaction with transplant physicians, nurse coordinators, patients, families, laboratories, governmental entities and insurance companies. This position also completes patient billing and reimbursement of National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Consults with patients and family members to obtain consent to begin donor search and testing, provide education regarding the donor search process, and to document the recipient identification and the donor identification number on the transplant recipient's arm band prior to transplant.
Initiates and coordinates donor search process with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to identify compatible donors for unrelated transplant candidates.
Analyzes compatibility reports, selects potential donors and coordinates further compatibility testing and transfer of samples from patients and donors. Reports results to physicians and nurse coordinators.
Ensures completion of clinical data forms required by the NMDP.
Verifies transplant benefits and coordinates financial clearance, including submission of clinical information and appeal information as needed. Submits request for funding from NMDP for donor search services as needed.
Presents donor search and financial status of active patients at weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
Maintains files on the patient search process according to the standards of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Stem Cell Therapy (FACT) and the NMDP.
Coordinates arrangements for obtaining, collecting and transporting blood samples and hematopoietic stem cell products to ensure its arrival for transplant.
