TheLead Radiation Therapist is accountable for the coordination of all radiation therapist activities on a day-to-day basis. TheLead Therapist is involved in the hiring of new radiation therapists within the Radiation Therapy department and assures assigned personnel have the requisite knowledge and skills to meet the identified needs and operational responsibilities. Performs all responsibilities of a staff radiation therapist and mentors staff Radiation Therapists and Radiation Therapy Students. Responsible for delivering ionizing radiation therapy treatments as determined by the Radiation Oncologist. Under the direction of the Department Manager assumes additional responsibilities to support the area. Helps complete the Quality Assurance Program, leads the therapist activities in absence of Department Manager, resolves or answers staff questions, and takes the lead in complex treatment setups.
Formulates Radiation Therapist work schedules
Maintains appropriate staffing by adjusting volumes to meet the needs of patient volume
Uses creative solutions to resolve problems
Communicates effectively with staff and customers and maintains composure in difficult situations.
Acts as a liaison between physics, physician, nursing and front desk to ensure proper communication of necessary information
Attends all staff meetings (vacation exception)
In absence of Manager, takes the lead, and resolves problems related to radiation therapist roles.
Assists Manager with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
Resolves conflict in a respectful manner.
Demonstrates effective time management.
Contributes to department goals and directions.
Role models behavior consistent with Fairview/HE standards and speaks positively about the department, UMP, Fairview and the University of Minnesota
Investigates incidents in a thorough and expeditious manner.
Provides timely, accurate and fair feedback to Manager regarding Radiation Therapists performance
Interviews and assists in the selection of qualified employees
Oversees the orientation process of new employees and non-employees visiting department.
Instruct students in clinicals and assess their performance in a timely and fair manner.
Understands and follows human resource policies and practices.
Serves as project lead for implementation and management of departmental record and verification system as well as other appropriate departmental projects.
Operates CT simulator, linear accelerators, treatment accessories, and related EMRs.
Serves as a technical resource person when called upon.
Completes quality assurance on all radiation emitting devices, and fills in when needed for morning warm-ups
Properly uses all radiation therapy immobilization devices and maintains them.
Actively involved in performing and overseeing requirements set forth by The Joint Commission. (Room audits, etc)
Additional tasks as seen necessary by department manager
Associates degree from an accredited Radiology program
Registered with the ARRT as a Radiation Therapist.
5+ years of increasingly complex Radiation Therapy experience
1 to 3 years leading or supervising Radiation Therapists.
Mentoring and training experience.
Excellent customer service and patient relations skills.
