Geisinger Health System is rapidly building large-scale genomics efforts for precision medicine across our healthcare system and is seeking a clinical molecular laboratory geneticist. We have a collaborative project to sequence more than 250,000 of our patients and a clinical research program that will integrate next-generation sequencing into everyday healthcare.
The candidate should be an ABMG-certified clinical molecular geneticist.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities can include but are not limited to:
Clinical interpretation of variants identified from whole exome sequencing, including secondary findings.
Coordination of follow-up laboratory testing for at-risk extended family members for known pathogenic variants.
Director of the MyCode® biobank, intended to be a CAP/CLIA-certified biorepository of DNA and other tissue samples from Geisinger patients for clinical research activities.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrated ability to independently manage scientific aspects of research projects and to provide discipline-specific scientific expertise to research projects. Excellent analytic, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding for research activities.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The The qualified candidate must hold a PhD or MD degree (or equivalent) and be ABMG-certified or have active candidate status in molecular genetics, with substantial training and experience in next-generation, sequencing methodologies, analysis and clinical interpretation. This recruitment is targeted for a junior- to mid-level candidate, but all eligible applicants will be considered.
