Position Purpose:

The Social Worker will engage families with the goal of providing community based and culturally specific mental health and family supports to include parent education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assess families for any mental health and family supports that are needed to alleviate barriers to self-sufficiency.

• Assist Case Management and Employment Director with conducting assessment of clients who are appropriate for shelter diversion services within the first 7 days after intake and every 7 days thereafter for the initial thirty (30) days following placement.

• Integrates knowledge and understanding of underlying mental health issues and the impact on individual behaviors and the family system and develops requisite interventions.

• Conducts individual, family and group mental health interventions as needed.

• Coordinates the development of an individually tailored treatment plan that delineates specific goals, objectives, and timeliness within 3 days of mental health intake.

• Ensures weekly and timely case note and data entry in HMIS within 2 business days per DHS regulation.

• Provides crisis and early intervention with families who may be struggling with pro-social behavior, adaptation, and acute mental health needs.

• Assists participants in developing skills and strategies for dealing with issues that have placed them in shelter care and/or dependence.

• Conducts mental health trainings for staff, mentor families and program participants.

• Refers families to specialty community based mental health services as needed based on tailored assessments and client willingness.

• Conducts substance use assessments and random breathalyzer tests or drug urinalysis when appropriate.

• Participates in case reviews, staff and other agency meetings, and all DHS mandated trainings.

 Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates in program team meetings

• Enters relevant data in ETO system
  
   

Qualifications:

• Must have a Master’s Degree in Social Work, licensed to practice social work BOTH in the District of Columbia as well as Maryland, and 2 years of experience in social work case management and direct service delivery.

• Good oral and written communications skills and customer service approach to training.

• Must possess an attitude compatible with the goals and purposes of NCCF.

• Experience in individual, group and family therapy.

• Knowledge of child and adolescent development.

• Excellent interpersonal/conflict resolution skills.

• Demonstration of cross cultural competencies.
