Description Research Assistant I (Part Time - 20 hours per week) Requisition Number 1908317 YOUR ROLE : In your pivotal, rewarding role as Research Assistant I, you will provide, under direct supervision, support for specified research projects. Additionally, you will collect, assess, and communicate data/results, as well as assist in general laboratory operation and inventory. This is a part time, 20 hour per week position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Clean equipment.
- Prepare reagents
- Maintain sterile conditions as required
- Maintain inventories,
- Ensure Laboratory is prepared for experiments
- Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and university guidelines.
- May include blood gas analyzer, centrifuge, pH meter, spectrophotometer, autoclave, scintillation counter, electrophoresis unit, analytical balance, etc.
- Prepare and operate equipment in experimental procedures
- Perform calculations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions
- Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogenics)
- Compile and communicate results to supervisor
- Read and follow experimental protocols (May include animal handling, tissue culture, etc.)
- Under supervision, run experiments, assays, and record results
Position Qualifications : Required: Bachelor's Degree and < 1 year experience Department Summary : The Vanderbilt DDRC is one of 16 Digestive Disease Research Centers supported by the National Institute of Health. It is a multidisciplinary center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center developed to serve the following purposes: - Promote digestive diseases-related research in an integrative, collaborative and multidisciplinary manner
- Enhance the basic research capabilities of established DDRC investigators
- Attract investigators not involved in digestive diseases-related research to pursue these lines of investigation
- Develop and implement programs for training and establishment of young investigators in digestive diseases-related research
- Facilitate the transfer of basic research findings to the clinical area
